Food Waste Prevention Day @ King Arthur Baking

PLEASE NOTE - the date of this event has changed to Sunday, April 7th*

Reducing food waste is a huge part of our identity at Butcher & Pantry, it is the basis for much of our business model (i.e. whole animal butchery, and multiple avenues for product in retail and foodservice). King Arthur Baking, Norwich VT, is hosting a Food Waste Prevention Week in April, and has invited us to partake. We are excited to bring more awareness to this issue and make a positive impact for our community. We will be posting up in the courtyard of the bakery, with our pizza truck - making pizzas that utilize commonly-thrown-away ingredients and serving up a pilot batch brew from Harpoon, which utilizes unsold bread from King Arthur Baking.

Ten percent of proceeds from this event will be donated to Vermont Fresh Network, a Vermont non-profit with the mission of “advancing relationships among farmers, chefs, and consumers to grow markets and eat more locally grown food.”

So come hang with us at King Arthur and make your positive impact!

Pizza Mountain: Reach for the Pie

PIZZA MOUNTAIN IS BACK!

Join us on the evening of Friday, September 29th at Ascutney Outdoors for some sweet slices, kickin’ jams, and great company. We’ll be serving pies, salads, and beverages galore from 5PM - 8PM, rain or shine!

We’re very excited to have Jay Nash & Ben Kogan performing - if you haven’t had the pleasure of basking in their melodies, you have got to check them out.

Tickets are $15, with kids 12 and under free of charge. You can purchase your tickets here, and just make sure to bring a copy (digital or otherwise) with you to the event.

This time around the mountain, we’ve restructured our menu a little bit (and had a bit more experience with the truck), so don’t worry about pre-ordering pie! We’ll have plenty of pizza for everyone: come as you are, with ticket in hand, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Our menu for the evening will be dropping soon, so stay tuned…

PIZZA MOUNTAIN: SLICE OF HEAVEN

PIZZA MOUNTAIN: SLICE OF HEAVEN

PIZZA MOUNTAIN IS BACK!

On Saturday, August 5th, from 5-8PM, we are returning to Ascutney Outdoors with our pizza truck for some hot & fresh, wood-fired pizzas. It’s always a party up there, so we’re bringing friends: Banjo Lady & the Old Man are going to be playing tunes, The Lazy Cow will be serving frozen treats, and Anthony from Vermont Wine Merchants will be doing a wine tasting to boot! The full menu will be coming out in a few days, and we’ll be pouring draft beer, wine, and other tasty beverages as well.

This time, we’re doing things a little differently to make life easier for everyone: we’ll be doing a pre-order for both tickets AND pizza deposits. Admission to the entire event will be $5 (with part of the proceeds going to Ascutney Outdoors), which you can purchase on our website. IN ADDITION, you can put a deposit down on pizza - $5 will guarantee you a pie, and you’ll get that money back at time of ordering. So, if you’re coming with your family of 4, you’ll probably want to head to our site and buy four admission tickets and a few pizza deposits to get everyone in and fed.

Pizza Mountains take the entire crew to pull off, so on the 5th the BB&P café will be closing at 2PM, and the whole store will be closing at 5PM.

THE PRE-ORDER WINDOW HAS CLOSED. PIZZA WILL BE AVAILABLE ON A FIRST-COME FIRST-SERVED BASIS SATURDAY NIGHT. SEE YOU THERE!

Whether you still need a gift, or already have your shopping done, it will be a great time regardless. We’ll see you there!

Sustainability Day in West Windsor

The Town of Brownsville is declaring April 22nd West Windsor Sustainability Day!

To celebrate, there are a few activities happening around town:

  • We will be doing a Bridge-to-Bridge cleanup along VT-44, starting at our store at 8AM. This should run until about 10AM, after which we will have some refreshments available for volunteers.

  • Do you own an electric vehicle (EV)? If so, please bring your EV to the West Windsor Town Hall from 10.30am to 12.30pm to share your ownership experiences and thoughts about how to make West Windsor a more EV friendly community.

  • From 11.00am to 12.30pm a crafts session for children will take place at Town Hall. During this session we will make mini window-sill greenhouses for the flowers preferred by our native pollinators, egg carton flower arrangements, paper roll bird feeders and play some earth-friendly games.

  • Following the crafts session, from 1.00pm - 2.00pm, several local experts will be on hand to chat about composting, how to deal with the ash borer threat and importance of trees to a sustainable West Windsor.

  • From 3-4 PM, we will be having a special meeting led by Peter on sustainable practices here at the store.

See you in town!
